This Deringer has early features, small bag shaped butt, no cap box or tear drop shaped eschution, the forward finial on triggerguard is simiular to the ones that date 1830 to 35. This one is clearly marked A.W.Spies on lockplate, + Deringer on the rear top barrel flat. Barrel pin eschutions, nose cap + rear stock eschution are made of German Silver . The engraved triggerguard + ramrod ferrule are iron as is cap on wooden ramrod. The barrel has light border engraving at the rear bordering the "Deringer" name + nice engraving on tang + tang screw ,the bore is about .31 cal ,4+1/4" barrel dia.724" at muzzel and .877 at breech has iron rib under barrel. Stock is smooth with some stains + a few light dings and scratches. may have been revarnished long agocheckering is there but a little worn on right hand side , there is a small piece missing on left side by nose cap + light crack on the right, could easily be repaired if one desired. A neat little Deringer made + marked for one of Henry Deringer's agent's- A.W. Spies of New York
